Miami Marlins and Marlins Mermaids

Bryan Petersen
Bryan Petersen was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the seventh round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of California, Irvine. Petersen was called up to the majors for the first time on May 6, 2010. He hit a single in his first career at bat and eventually scored a run and on July 20, 2011. Petersen also pitched a hitless inning of relief, walking one batter, in a game against the San Diego Padres.

Mike Stanton
On June 6, 2010, the Florida Marlins announced that Mike Stanton would be called up to the Major Leagues, making his debut on June 8. At 20 years, 212 days, he became the second youngest player for the Marlins, behind Miguel Cabrera (20 years, 67 days). Stanton went three-for-five with two infield singles and scored twice in the debut. Stanton's first big-league home run was a grand slam off of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Garza. He joined Jeff Conine, Chuck Carr, Quilvio Veras, Craig Counsell and Jeremy Hermida on the list of Marlins whose first homer came with the bases loaded. In addition, Stanton became the fourth player in the past 25 years to hit his first career grand slam before his 21st birthday. On August 11, 2010 in a game against the Washington Nationals, Stanton went five-for-five with four RBIs two doubles and a home run. He became the second youngest player to collect five hits and four RBI in a game, and the first to do it since 1935. Stanton also is the second Marlin with five hits and four RBI in the same game, joining Gary Sheffield, who did it on September 17, 1995 at Colorado. For his rookie season, Stanton's homeruns averaged a distance of 399.6 feet with average speed off bat clocked at an average of 104.3 MPH. He was named to Baseball America's 2010 All-Rookie Team and also named an outfielder on the 2010 Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team. He’s had a good 2011 campaign and battled through leg and eye injuries, which have kept him from being a consistent hitting threat in the Marlins lineup. He hit his first walk-off home run on July 6, 2011 against the Philadelphia Phillies and finished the 2011 season batting .262 with 34 home runs and 87 RBI in 516 at bats.

Brett Hayes
Brett Hayes made his first Major League start on May 15, 2010 vs. New York. Prior to that night, he had only one other appearance on the field in his career - May 22, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay. Hayes hit his second home run on August 30, 2010 vs. Washington, but missed 14 games with a left wrist contusion from July 21 to August 5, 2010. During the seven rehab games with single-A Jupiter, he hit. 217 with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. During his career, he has caught five of 18 potential base stealers (27.8%) and had a catcher's ERA of 4.01 (190.2 IC/85 ER).
