Southern pop rock band to tour Southwest Asia with Armed Forces Entertainment

June 13 , 2007 download story

Pop-rock group, Alan Yates Band, will perform for troops stationed in Southwest Asia July 2-23.

This power-pop band based out of Atlanta, GA is highly recognized among the local music scene. The band plays at many popular, local venues and performed for 180,000 people at the 2006 New Year’s Eve Atlanta Peachdrop.  Although this group may be accustomed to playing live shows for large crowds, this will be their first overseas tour with Armed Forces Entertainment.

“We’re definitely grateful for the opportunity to show our appreciation to the troops. We just want to express our gratitude the best way that we can--by bringing our music to the men and women that are so far away from home making so many sacrifices for our country,” said bandleader Alan Yates.

Comprised of songwriter/producer/lead vocalist, Alan Yates; drummer Michael Lamb; bassist Brian Brisky; and lead guitarist Willie Boos, the Alan Yates Band makes music that is rhythmic and melodic yet maintains a hard edge.  Strong melodies, cutting vocal harmonies and pronounced guitar riffs give their music a distinct and appealing sound.

This year at the Rock Boat VII, an annual music festival held on a cruise ship, the Alan Yates Band performed with numerous well-known rock artists such as Collective Soul, Sister Hazel, Marc Broussard and Better than Ezra.

“The Alan Yates Band’s music appeals to a variety of people, which is great since the troops are a truly diverse crowd,” said Armed Forces Entertainment regional coordinator for Southwest Asia, Dan Cook. “The troops are in for a good time because these performers really know how to put on a rockin’ show.”

Their highly-acclaimed, second album, entitled Red, isa tribute to Yates’ father, a fellow musician who recently passed away. This album highlights the band’s versatility and Yates’ skillful production.

Yates’ works with Camp Jam, a national program to introduce children to songwriting and recording and is very proud to be involved with this organization. He along with many other music professionals share their knowledge and experience with young musicians participating in the program.
