| Acclaimed country duo The Bellamy Brothers will perform for U.S. troops stationed in Germany, March 23-26, as part of an Armed Forces Entertainment and Stars for Stripes presentation. The brothers, who have toured internationally for years, are especially looking forward to the opportunity to perform for U.S. troops overseas.
"We are really excited to get the chance to bring a little bit of home to our brave servicemen and women stationed in Germany" said David Bellamy. "They sacrifice so much to protect our country and our freedoms, and this is just a small way for us to say 'thank you' for all that they do for their fellow Americans."
Howard and David Bellamy's musical career spans more than 30 years, blazing a trail through both pop and country musical genres. Their first official gig was in 1968, when they played a free show with their father at the Rattlesnake Roundup in San Antonio, Florida. They honed their early skills playing black clubs in the South and singing backup for artists such as Percy Sledge, Eddy Floyd and Little Anthony & the Imperials. Their first big break came when David penned the hit song, "Spiders and Snakes," which was recorded by Jim Stafford and became a major hit. This success launched them into the Los Angeles music circles that included Bob Dylan, James Taylor and Van Morrison.
The Bellamy Brothers first burst onto the national pop music scene in 1976 with their hit "Let Your Love Flow," which became an instant smash hit in both the U.S. and Europe. Soon they were performing sold-out concerts alongside such established acts as Loggins & Messina, the Doobie Brothers and the Beach Boys. The popularity of the song abroad helped to build a huge international fan base for the duo, which endures to this day.
By the late '70s, the Bellamy Brothers landed on the country charts with another smash hit, "If I Said You had a Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)." This was the first of 14 #1 singles in the U.S. alone for the country duo. From 2000 to 2008, the Bellamy Brothers hold the record in both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association Awards for the most duo nominations.
"The Bellamy Brothers are the most successful duo in country music history and we are delighted to bring musicians of their stature and talent to Germany to perform for our troops," said Navy Lieutenant Jarod Trujillo, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Europe. "I know they will put on an unforgettable show that will have their audiences asking for more."
