Performances in Japan, Guam and Hawaii part of group’s first-ever large tour

The San Diego Charger Girls are poised to cap off an exciting post-season with a 13-day tour with Armed Forces Entertainment, performing for American service members in Japan, Guam and Okinawa.

The Charger Girls, the official dance team of the NFL’s San Diego Chargers, will send 13 of their 28 performers on tour with Armed Forces Entertainment. Known for their dance skill and ability to entertain large crowds, the Charger Girls plan to perform a variety of dance and music styles as well as modified game-day formations.

“We’re looking forward to being there to thank them in person for what they do,” says Lisa Simmons, San Diego Charger Girls Director. “Being here in San Diego, we all have personal ties to the military, and we wanted to take it to the next level and do something a bit bigger for that community.”

The Charger Girls often perform at Navy and Marine Corps bases in the San Diego area. They also are called to accommodate other local military requests like appearing at military family picnics and visiting wounded troops at hospitals. The group considers their tour with Armed Forces Entertainment as a natural extension of their outreach at home.

“This is going to be a big eye opener for many of our ladies who’ve never really traveled outside the United States,” says Simmons. “I hope they leave knowing the impact they’ve had on the lives of people they meet on this tour. I’m sure it’s going to be a life-altering experience for all of us, and we can’t wait to go,” says Simmons.

“We’re excited to welcome the Charger Girls on their first large-scale tour,” says Marine Corps Captain Jamie Fleischhacker, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for the Pacific. “Our troops always appreciate a little glimpse of home and this performance will be no exception.”
