| Following a successful tour for our troops stationed in the Pacific Rim, LA-based singer and songwriter Cindy Alexander will tour again with Armed Forces Entertainment to Guantanamo Bay August 20-24. She has performed for troops stationed in Japan, Okinawa, Guam, Kwajalein and Hawaii.
One of Amazon.com’s best selling independent artists, Alexander is dedicated to creating songs with depth and spirit. Her band has been together for 10 years and has opened for or shared the stage with Suzanne Vega, Joan Osbourn, Marc Cohn, America, the Bacon Brothers, Jill Scott, The Bangles, Edwin McCain, Dishwalla, Collective Soul, Howard Jones and Joe Bonamassa.
“Touring with Armed Forces Entertainment is among the most worthwhile things I’ve ever done with my music. By performing for the troops, my band and I are attempting to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for the freedoms that we enjoy; yet what we are gaining emotionally and spiritually from the experience is a gift beyond compare. Entertaining our troops and their families is a privilege, and I am so grateful to Armed Forces Entertainment for making it possible.”
In 2006, Alexander won NBC’s StarTomorrow, an online version of American Idol in which viewers were able to vote for their favorite artists out of the top 100 bands chosen from the thousands that auditioned across the nation. The title included the opportunity to work with Grammy-award winning producer and songwriter David Foster in a development deal with a major record label.
Choosing to remain an independent artist, she did not accept the prize. Since then, with the support and generosity of her loyal fans, Alexander has gone on to produce her fourth CD, Wobble with the World, by relying solely on pre-orders and donations.
Running her own record label, JamCat Records, Alexander has pursued her own creative direction and developed as an artist and music industry professional.
“Cindy is a hardworking musical artist and songwriter with a lot of talent,” said Frank Tagatac, Armed Forces Entertainment Pacific circuit and regional manager. “Her music is inspirational and she demonstrates a firm desire to play a great show for the troops.”
Alexander has received numerous awards including L.A. Music Awards Independent Pop Artist of the year, 2004 and 2005, Just Plain Folks Songwriter of the year, 2004 and All Access Magazine Best Female Vocalist, 2004.
Her last album, Angels and Demons, won the L.A. Music Awards 2006 Album of the Year award and her fourth CD is expected out in September 2007.
