| The New York hip-hop group, Dujeous, will take their invigorating fusion of hip-hop, reggae, rock and jazz on tour to U.S. troops stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Guam and Hawaii, November 28-December 23. Dujeous has been called one of hip-hop's most explosive live acts. The group has shared the stage with such hip-hop luminaries as Busta Rhymes, Slick Rick, Mos Def, Mobb Deep, CamRon and funk legend, George Clinton.
The group's three vocalists, Mojo, Rheturik and Mas D, began performing together in elementary school jazz choirs. Together, they coined the word "Dujeous," which they say is a "shape-shifting" word, meaning all things good. By their freshman year in high school, the seven members had formed the group now known as Dujeous.
Dujeous has accumulated praise from critics and a loyal following of fans, both in the United States and Europe. Their music was featured in the 2002 surfer girl movie, "Blue Crush." In 2004, Dujeous released its first full-length CD, "City Limits," on the Third Earth Music label, which reached No. 6 on the CMJ hip-hop chart.
"We are definitely looking forward to performing for our troops in the Pacific," said guitarist Taylormade. "We will make sure to show them a good time. I don't think they have heard our exact sound before, but we always leave with more fans than we started with!"
The native-New York group members traveling on tour include: vocalist Mojo the Cinematic (Loren Hammonds); vocalist Rheturik (Aaron Jones); vocalist Mas D (David Kupferstein); guitarist Taylormade (Taylor Rivelli); trumpeter Dave Guy; drummer Tomek (Tomek Gross; and bassist Apex (Alex Gale). All of the group members except Guy will be on the tour, and will be joined by tour manager Guillaum Foss and soundman Ryan Littman.
"Dujeous puts on a terrific, high-energy show that combines catchy and insightful lyrics with great instrumental beats," said Frank Tagatac Armed Forces Entertainment Circuit and Regional Manager for the Pacific. "The group's innovative approach to their music and their message offers something for everyone. Our troops always enjoy hearing a fresh, original sound from home, and Dujeous will definitely deliver that to them."
