| Jason Boland and the Stragglers will bring their classic country music to the troops stationed in Greenland, November 28 - December 7. The group's sound has been compared to Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr., but with a more contemporary twist. Boland, who has been called "a modern-day country music outlaw," hails from Harrah, Oklahoma, but today the band is based in New Braunfels, Texas. Boland performs lead vocals and guitar and is joined by Roger Ray, pedal steel/rhythm guitar; Brad Rice, drums/backing vocals; Grant Tracy, bass; and Noah Jeffries, banjo, mandolin, guitar.
"We are really looking forward to putting on a great show for our troops and relay a connection to home for them," said Boland. "Since they are in total darkness over there at this time of the year, we are definitely planning a lively, fun and high-energy show. We won't be pulling out the dark, sad ballads for this one!"
Boland added that the band members look forward the tour from their own perspective. "We want to feel a real connection with the people who are defending our country. I think this will allow us to identify more with what our troops are experiencing and not feel so far removed from it all."
Boland and the Stragglers formed eight years ago and quickly gained a loyal following among country music enthusiasts. Their latest album, "The Bourbon Legend," was produced by Grammy Award winner Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam, Buck Owens, Lucinda Williams) and was released last year on Sustain Records. The group's earlier albums include "Somewhere in the Middle" (2004), "Truck Stop Diaries" (2001), and "Pearl Snaps" (1999). The band has sold more than 100,000 records since 1999.
“Jason Boland and the Stragglers offer up a fresh take on the classic "outlaw" country sound," said Marine Corps Captain Jesse Davidson, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Europe and the Mediterranean. "Boland's songwriting delivers a dynamite combination of honest, heartfelt lyrics and pure country melodies, bringing to mind some of country music's greatest songwriters and performers."
