Alt-country artist goes takes his tunes a long way from Texas to boost troop morale King Cone travels the world with Armed Forces Entertainment to perform for U.S. troops Texas-based alt country artist King Cone and his band The Tailgate Philharmonic will perform for our troops stationed throughout the Middle East. Cone’s crew will visit bases in Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain and Djibouti August 1-24. This will be their first tour with Armed Forces Entertainment.

“The band and I are ready to get out there and play our hearts out,” said Cone, lead singer. “It means so much to us to be able to give back in someway. We’re going to bring some good old, down-home country fun to the men and women who sacrifice so much for us; they deserve to cut loose and just have a good time.”

Cone and the band tour throughout Texas and across the nation, playing over 200 shows a year. As a result of extensive touring and with the release of their latest album entitled “Gallery,” Cone and The Tailgate Philharmonic have gained an ever-growing, loyal fan base and are quickly carving out a name for themselves in the alternative country scene.

“King Cone and The Tailgate Philharmonic are fun and diverse performers,” said Army Captain Erik Ogilvie, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia. “They’re not just country, they have a definite rock flare and their shows really get the crowd going.”

Born and raised on a farm near Dallas, Texas, Cone picked up the guitar at a very early age. At the age of 13, Cone formed a band that was booked for their first paying performance that year. The young talented group went on to tour Venezuela and to develop an annual fundraiser that raised $50,000 to benefit the local heritage museum. During high school the band continued to achieve success by recording their first album and opening for country legends Alabama and Willie Nelson. Cone volunteers to support several causes close to his heart. Inspired by his mother and a former wrestling coach, both cancer survivors, Cone and the Tailgate Philharmonic continually perform benefit shows to raise money for the cause.

Touring members traveling overseas will be Cone, lead vocals and guitar; Dwayne Bollmeyer, guitar; Paul Piper, drums; Jeff Wallace, bass guitar and Trevor Meek, sound engineer.
