| Nashville-based country singer/songwriter Laura Sullivan will embark on her third tour with Armed Forces Entertainment will be entertaining troops stationed in Hawaii, Kwajalein atoll, Guam, Japan, Singapore and Diego Garcia November 1 – November 28.
In 2004, Sullivan competed against 20,000 contestants on the second season of the reality/talent television show Nashville Star and ranked among the top-fifteen finalists in this national singing competition. Since then, she has performed with renowned country artists Trace Adkins, Reba McEntire, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban and Tracy Byrd.
“What an opportunity! I am so proud and excited to perform for the troops. This is a huge deal for me to be able to give back to these men and women who do so much for their country and are so far away from their families and friends. I’m ready to sing my heart out and hopefully give the troops a taste of home with my performance,” said Sullivan.
Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Sullivan was first musically influenced by her parents. Some of her fondest childhood memories include dancing around the living room performing musicals with her sister and nights filled with the sounds of her father playing his own songs on the guitar. Aside from singing, over the years she has continued to explore her musical interests by learning to play many different instruments such as the piano, guitar, flute, bass-flute, banjo, Irish fife and even the bagpipes.
Sullivan’s start as a performer came in 2000 when her mother encouraged her to enter a $1,000-prized karaoke competition at the local county fair. After singing and composing music for years, the actual experience of performing in front of a large audience and winning the competition turned out to be the defining moment that jumpstarted her career. About two years ago, Sullivan moved to Nashville to pursue her music career. She has periodically worked with LeAnn Rimes and recently decided to devote her time solely to working on her new album.
“Her music is very heartfelt and honest,” said Frank Tagatac, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit and regional manager for the Pacific. “Laura’s performances are always uplifting and energetic, she is an entertainer to be enjoyed by all audiences.”
