| The popular Washington, D.C. band Lloyd Dobler Effect will jam for the troops stationed in Southwest Asia, Nov. 8 -- Nov. 29. The group, named after the loveable John Cusack character in the 1989 film "Say Anything," fuses high-energy rock and roll with Latin rhythms and go-go beats. The group appeals to both mainstream rock lovers and culturally diverse audiences.
"We are thrilled to be going on tour with Armed Forces Entertainment again," said Phil Kaminski, lead singer and guitarist for the Lloyd Dobler Effect. "We want to provide the troops with some fun musical entertainment. The highlight for us is hanging out with so many wonderful people and getting insights from servicemen and women on different issues."
Joining Kaminski on the tour are band members Chris Bruno, guitar, piano and vocals; Donnie Williams, drums; Patrick Hughes, bass and vocals; and Rusty Williams, percussion and vocals.
The group has performed in 42 states and eight countries, and has developed a loyal and extensive fan base. Acclaimed not only by critics and fans for their thought-provoking lyrics, Lloyd Dobler Effect has appeared with such notable acts as Jane's Addiction, Eminem, Third Eye Blind, the Goo Goo Dolls and The Roots. In 2005, the group was voted one of Washington, D.C.'s top 10 best live bands in the Washington Post Readers Poll.
"Lloyd Dobler Effect is a great live performance band that completely draws the audience in with their high-voltage show," said Army Captain Trevor Garrett, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia. "Their show has got a great rock and roll feel with terrific vocal harmonies. They put on some terrific shows on their past two tours in the Pacific and I know they will bring that same level of entertainment to our troops in Southwest Asia."
