Salsa, reggaeton, Latin soul, jazz and fusion sounds will merge together as Lugo and Latin Soul perform one of its most energetic shows for armed forces personnel stationed in the Mediterranean. Grammy-certified songwriter and vocalist Edwin Lugo and his band are scheduled to tour with Armed Forces Entertainment throughout Italy and Spain in September.

“Lugo and Latin Soul bring together everyone’s favorite flavor of Latin music, combining fiery rhythm and beats to keep the crowd moving,” said Joseph Mennit, Armed Forces Entertainment regional coordinator for the Mediterranean circuit. “Edwin and the group are a talented bunch of musicians who show their support to the troops by putting on a show to remember.”

Beginning his career at a young age, Lugo went from singing in front of his church to studying theater and voice at the University of Texas in Austin. Making his record debut at age 18, he has since received Grammy certification for his songwriting and vocal work on Norman Brown’s Grammy award-winning CD “Just Chillin.”

Performing as a solo artist for more than 20 years, New York native Lugo, remains active in the music industry as a songwriter, vocalist and producer. One of his greatest accomplishments has been creating and managing his own recording and publishing company entitled Love Kiss Music.

Lugo plays the congas and traditional percussion, sings and dances and encourages the crowd to join in the fiesta. Playing for nearly 6,000 people at Radio City Music Hall and for 2,500 people at the Apollo Theatre in New York City has prepared him for putting on big shows.

“My cousin served in the military in Iraq, which inspired me to play for troops stationed in remote locations,” said Lugo. “My goal is to bring the best Latin music to the men and women who serve in our armed forces, hoping to brighten their evening and maybe even their week.”
