| The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders will bring a high-energy variety show on tour with Armed Forces Entertainment to perform for troops in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain from January 19-February 1.
“We are honored to once again perform for our troops in Southwest Asia. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience for us,” says Emily Newton, Cheerleading Coordinator/Director for the Miami Dolphins, Ltd. “Our troops are homesick so we hope to bring a little bit of America to them and bring some smiles to their faces.”
Newton is a seasoned entertainment vet herself, having performed for the troops as a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and toured with Armed Forces Entertainment in Macedonia. “I love working with Armed Forces Entertainment, and I know this will be a life-changing experience the girls will never forget,” she says.
The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders performance group is a traveling team of 12 members from the 40-member squad. They’ll perform a 90-minute variety show designed to captivate audiences with a range of song and dance numbers, including some that incorporate audience participation. The show will feature some typical game day routines as well as special song and dance numbers featuring Latin, rock-and-roll and hip-hop styles.
After live performances on tour, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders stay to sign autographs and take pictures with their audiences. They’ll also participate in meet and greet sessions throughout the day to get to know the troops a little better. It’s that kind of accessibility and interaction that makes Armed Forces Entertainment performances a unique morale booster for the troops. “Getting to know some of these men and women is one of the special things about the trip,” says Newton. “It means a lot to the troops and us to be able to sit and have lunch together.”
“We’re thrilled to present the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders to tour with us,” says Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia, Army Captain Erik Ogilvie. “With Super Bowl Season right around the corner, seeing the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders will bring a little bit of the fun of Sunday football to our troops.”
“I hope they come home understanding a soldier’s story and how his or her life and duty changes ours,” says Newton. “I didn’t really know a lot about the military, but when I came back, I had a huge respect for their experience and what they do. It just opens your eyes to the bigger things in life.”
