Sweet-as-honey-voiced Mindy McQ embarks on first overseas tour

Armed Forces Entertainment takes up and coming singer to the Pacific Rim

Mindy McQ will bring her silky-smooth R&B sound to troops stationed in Okinawa, Korea, Singapore and Diego Garcia, November 6 -- December 2. Born in the tiny farming town of Berlin Center, Ohio, McQ moved to Cleveland when she was 22. Pursuing her interest in music and performing, she recorded with a local duo, 2 Skinny Dorks, at Akron's Neon Cactus recording studio, where she met producers/musicians Mike Farona and Jon Denney.  Soon McQ, Farona and Denney began collaborating on songwriting and recording. In 2006, the trio relocated to the musical mecca of Nashville.

Although she originally began as a folk-oriented singer, McQ quickly found herself drawn to a blend of classic soul, funk and jazz.  A few of McQ's musical influences are Aretha Franklin, Macy Gray, Jill Scott, Alicia Keyes, Sarah Vaughan and Norah Jones.

"I am so excited about this opportunity to go to the Pacific and perform for our troops stationed there," said McQ.  "It's my hope that we can bring them a little piece of home, especially since they will be so far from their loved ones over the holidays."

McQ will be joined on the Armed Forces Entertainment tour by Farona on guitar; Denney on keyboards; Brad Barrett on bass; Adam Abrashoff on drums, Carmen Wally as backup vocalist; and Lance Hoffman on saxophone.

"Mindy McQ brings warm, lush vocals and a classic R&B sound to her show — and the total package is a mesmerizing experience," says Frank Tagatac, Armed Forces Entertainment Pacific Circuit and Regional Manager.  "Her combination of R&B, soul, funk and jazz will have the troops getting into her groove in no time."
