| Rocking their own kind of holiday cheer for the troops, the Niki Barr Band will perform at U.S. military bases in the Mediterranean and Europe, December 16 through January 11. Known for their high-intensity rock sound and captivating onstage performances, the group will put on shows for servicemen and women stationed in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and Greece.
Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the band has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas. Lead singer Niki Barr has been writing, playing and performing rock and roll since she was 15. By age 17, she released her first fully produced EP, The Other Side of Me. Barr released her first full-length record, Lush, in 2005 to critical acclaim. Lush was soon followed by another release, Go. Both Lush and Go spawned #1 hits in the UK on the active rock charts. The latest EP released in 2007, Bloom, is the first ‘band’ effort and showcases the talents of the group.
“These tours have made us feel a sense of patriotism we would’ve never felt otherwise. We never really understood before what exactly it was like to live, eat, and work as a U.S. soldier," agreed members of the band. "Our soldiers are by far the most respectable, intelligent, and strong-willed men and women we have ever met. If there’s one thing we do best, it’s rock. If there’s one thing we could do to give back to the troops this holiday, it’s to rock with them.”
As a solo artist, Barr has toured with Armed Forces Entertainment nine times. Since the band formed in 2005, they have played for our troops on three previous tours—collectively performing with Armed Forces Entertainment for military personnel in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Japan, Singapore, Diego Garcia and the Balkans amongst other locales. The group says that having the opportunity to perform for U.S. troops all over the world is one of their greatest achievements.
The Niki Barr Band, consisting of lead guitarist Island Styles, bassist Scott Ensign and drummer BJ Kerwin recently released a five-song EP, titled Bloom, which received critical acclaim as the band’s first collaborative effort. "The Niki Barr Band’s distinct raw sound is punctuated by Niki’s great voice," said Navy Lieutenant Jarod Trujillo, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Europe and the Mediterranean. "And they always rock really hard, which gets the crowds pumped. Their performances truly exude an infectious energy."
