| The classic country band Pete Ford & Texas Hold 'Em will perform for troops stationed in Southwest Asia, March 2-25. Based in Portland, Oregon, the band is one of the first Pacific Northwest country acts to travel to Southwest Asia to entertain the military.
Getting the chance to travel with Armed Forces Entertainment on a tour for U.S. troops stationed overseas is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Ford. His father, a Navy veteran, served in World War II and often told him how much he enjoyed the USO tours. "We are really looking forward to entertaining our troops with a great show. We want to bring them a little bit of home," said Ford. "I know this tour is going to be the experience of a lifetime for all of us."
Ford grew up in a family who was passionate about country music, so from an early age he was drawn to the sound of country music legends such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. While classic country music is the at the core of Pete Ford & Texas Hold 'Em, the group's musical repertoire includes covers of popular songs by Jimmy Buffet, Lynryd Skynryd and Alan Jackson.
Ford is joined on the tour by Steve Sarber, guitar and vocals; Paul Stevens, bass, Dwayne Gibson, rhythm guitar; and Derrick Boone, drums. In anticipation of their Armed Forces Entertainment tour, Ford initiated an international calling card drive to collect phone cards that he will hand out to the troops on their tour.
"Pete Ford & Texas Hold 'Em put on a terrific live performance," says Army Captain Trevor Garrett, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia. "Their high-energy show offers a broad selection of favorite tunes that appeals to all musical tastes."
