| The Polynesian Paradise Dancers will set out on their first Armed Forces Entertainment tour performing for troops stationed in the Pacific May 8 – May 25. This professional Polynesian entertainment company specializes in traditional and modern dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand and Samoa.
Established in 1993 by Akemi Welsh, the Polynesian Paradise Dancers are one of the most sought after Polynesian shows in the world. From performances at movie premieres to international festivals in China, this dance troupe shares their love of dance and Polynesian culture with the world. Their vibrant costumes, skillful hip shaking, fascinating fire-knife dances and exhilarating live drums that you see at the show, are true to the Polynesian tradition of the hula.
“We pride ourselves in giving performances that appeal to everyone. We’ve performed for dignitaries and celebrities and we’re very excited to give the troops a special treat,” said Welsh.
The dancers have also made appearances on numerous television shows including ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and MTV reality shows “70’s house” and “Denied.” They have also appeared in Ameritech and MCI television commercials.
“This dance troupe provides an authentic, cultural experience that is high-energy and uplifting,” said Frank Tagatac, Armed Forces Entertainment regional coordinator for the Pacific circuit. “I have no doubt that troops will enjoy the lively, festive performances.”
