Karina Nistal and the Rebel Crew set to spice things up in Southwest Asia

Houston-based Karina Nistal and the Rebel Crew will bring their scorching fusion sound to troops stationed in Southwest Asia, October 5 - 28.  A rising star on the Latin hip-hop scene, Karina Nistal has rapidly gained popularity throughout the South and Midwest and the United Kingdom with her sexy electro-Latin style, conscious message and energetic stage presence.

Rebel Crew, founded in the mid-80s by frontmen Joe B. and Lion 808, has electrified audiences throughout the South and Midwest with its urban beatbox, reggae undertones and global hip-hop sound.  The group's musical influences include Bob Marley, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Grandmaster Flash, the Rolling Stones and Curtis Mayfield.

"We can't wait to bring the troops a taste of what's happening on the cutting edge at home musically," said Joe B. “We are bringing a celebration, party vibe to the troops. For them, we will do our show this way, that way, every which way but the wrong way."

In August of this year, Nistal won the Houston Press Music Awards "Best Local Rap" category, beating out numerous male rappers.  Her debut CD, “Nistyle,” released in 2006, has earned accolades from critics and fans alike. Nistal will be joined on the tour by Lion 808 on keys and drum machine; Mark Speer on guitar; Jon Durbin on trumpet; John Cruz on keyboards and vocals; and D.J. Soulfree on turntables.

"Karina Nistal and the Rebel Crew showcase a complete fusion of sounds, from Latin-electro pop and urban hip-hop to jazz and dancehall reggae," said Army Captain Trevor Garrett, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia.

“Their high-octane show truly offers something for everyone.  This group is guaranteed to energize the troops and lift up their spirits."
