| Rockie Lynne heads out to Southwest Asia to entertain troops Nationally acclaimed entertainer embarks on first Armed Forces Entertainment overseas tour Popular entertainer Rockie Lynne will entertain troops stationed in Southwest Asia with his distinctive blend of contemporary country and melodic rock, December 16 through January 5. Lynne first burst on the country music scene in 2006 when he released his critically acclaimed self-titled debut CD. His debut single, "Lipstick," spent an impressive 10 consecutive weeks in the No. 1 slot on Billboard's Country Singles Sales Chart. Soon thereafter, Lynne was named a "breakout artist" by ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” and was named by Billboard as their artist "Most Likely to Succeed."
An Army veteran himself, Lynne knows firsthand the challenges and hardships that members of the military face. He wrote and recorded the much-loved song, "Red, White and Blue," which is a tribute to those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. This song has become a personal anthem for many in the military. It is played at virtually every memorial held in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Lynne has performed the song on “Good Morning America,” at the White House and on the Grand Ole Opry.
"I served in the Army right after high school and it was such a great character building experience. It bestowed on me discipline, a great work ethic and a love for our country," said Lynne. "This tour is for the men and women who are serving our country so bravely and selflessly. I want them to know that there are people at home who really appreciate them. We want to bring a little Christmas joy and cheer to the guys and gals who might really need it."
Lynne's commitment to giving back to the Armed Forces extends far beyond his music. He is the co-founder of a Minneapolis-based charity motorcycle ride called "Tribute to the Troops." The event raises funds for soldier-related charities and has raised nearly $200,000. This past September, the ride included nearly 1,000 motorcyclists and the fifth annual “Tribute to the Troops” ride will take place next year on September 11-13.
Lynne, who has appeared numerous times on the Grand Ole Opry and has performed on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series, got his start singing and writing music at the age of 14 in his hometown of Statesville, N.C. His debut album was awarded four-and-a-half stars in People magazine. An accomplished songwriter, he wrote or co-wrote all 11 tracks on the record, released on Universal South Records.
"Rockie Lynne puts on an amazing performance that I know our troops will not soon forget," said Army Captain Erik Ogilvie, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia. "Not only is he a nationally recognized singer and songwriter, but he is a true patriot as well. He proudly served his country and is now giving back to those currently serving by entertaining them with his electrifying show."
