| Yamama’Nym, a soul-rich R&B group out of the Baltimore, Maryland-Washington, DC area will tour through Southwest Asia with Armed Forces Entertainment to entertain troops. The band will be performing in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Qatar, Djibouti, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, April 8-May 4.
"This is our second tour with Armed Forces Entertainment and the most rewarding part of entertaining overseas is bringing R&B and soul music to the troops who are missing this unique sound from home," said Tre Barr, founder and producer of Yamama’Nym and owner of 2 A.M. Music. "By performing at these bases, we are fulfilling a need within the military. It makes us feel so good that we are, in essence, giving back to those who give so much.”
The group was formed in 2002 by members from the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. Barr set out to find a band to back up a solo vocalist in 2001, but after witnessing the eclectic musicians perform together he quickly realized he was onto something bigger.
Yamama’Nym features six talented artists that blend together soul, R&B, jazz and hip-hop to drive the unique sound of the band. The band consists of: Sam Prather keyboard and vocals; Dru White lead guitar and background vocals; KJ Dennis veteran member and lead vocalist; Selah vocalist; Wardell Howell plays bass guitar and Vanshawn “Taz” Agnew is the drummer.
“Bringing a fresh sound like Yamama’Nym to Southwest Asia will definitely re-energize the troops’ spirits. The band plays a mix of music generations providing appealing entertainment to a diverse audience," said Army Captain Trevor Garrett, Armed Forces Entertainment circuit manager for Southwest Asia.
In 2007 Yamama’Nym will release their third album, “SOULAR EVOLUTION,” featuring vibrant tracks that reflect the heart of their movement—bringing back true funk and soul.
