Paris Escovedo

Oakland California native Paris Escovedo, has emerged to bring latin back to the world of jazz. Paris has played the timbales since he was a child. His first set of timbales was a gift from the great Tito Puente. He is both venerated and in high demand attributable to his various trail blazing works as a percussionist on studio recordings for Grammy-award-winning artists such as Pink, Collective Soul, and Arrested Development. Paris is the son of the late legendary percussionist Thomas “Coke” Escovedo of the Carlos Santana band of the 1970s he later created his groundbreaking band, Azteca. He was also the visionary responsible for ushering in latin artists to the San Francisco Bay Area music scene; artists such as, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, and Celia Cruz to name a few.

Paris and  his band, the Paris Escovedo Project. Hit the streets running in 2002 touring extensively both in the United States and abroad at several of the world’s most revered venues and festivals in order to satiate the desire of his existent and ever-increasing fan base. ,Passion is to be the vehicle that will transport him to the next level of artistic expression and achievement. The group possesses the vision, Passion, and support base to see this come to fruition. All members of the Paris Escovedo Project are consummate musicians who are involved artistically in various endeavors,yet contribute their talent & hard work to the perfection of this project.

The Paris Escovedo Project can be classified as Ghetto Jazz: a mixture of funk, and latin jazz. Paris collaborates with his musicians to continually pursue outlets for his various musical moods. A variety of musical genres and explores everything from latin jazz to hip hop with masterful dexterity. Paris has maintained his vision for this live project – that of combining the rhythmic structure of his latin music that he is famed for, and further emphasizing melody and live expression and in doing so is clearly en route to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the latin jazz scene. The group adeptly utilizes its various influences of jazz, rock, funk, latin, and blues to create an unforgettably inimitable and emotive sound that incites sensations of rapture from the listener, extinguishing inhibitions and setting their spirit free. They are storytellers who build upon their vast experiences and musical expertise employing their sensibilities to create entrancing stories which contain pinnacles of emotion that reverberate in the souls of those who listen – which distinguishes them from any other group of its kind. Each note acts as a guide toward the attainment of musical enlightenment. When Paris Escovedo plays, he formulates what he wants to demonstrate and he is focused and aware of it that he is the surround, nothing is separate. He becomes connected to his drums – to his music. He is an effective creator; his music infiltrates space with ideas and mansions of his musical thoughts which allows for an intangible phenomenon. There is such a sense of freedom that he expresses during his performances, a boundless energy that comes straight from his heart.
