Rob Byer

In an industry prone to categorizing everyone and everything, Rob Byer creates a quandary for Baltimore’s music scene. Is he a gifted songwriter ...or one of the best singer/performers to hit the scene in years?

Rob Byer’s first independent release, “Things Change,” proves that he is one of those rare musical talents who truly can do it all ...and do it well. Having written all ten songs on “Things Change,” Byer has independently sold over 10,000 copies since its release.

Byer’s music has been described as “Country Pop” or “Blue Collar Country.” It’s the storyteller of John Mellencamp, the soulful rock country of Travis Tritt and has a country pop sensibility of Keith Urban all tied into one. The songs Rob writes are about the people, to the people and for the people. Not just good songs, but Hits!

Rob Byer is blessed to have a backing band that is as talented as they are dedicated. Dave Loetz (Bass), Dave Marsiglia (Keyboards & Backing Vocals), Denny Grace (Guitars & Backing Vocals) & Stuart Sadler (Drums & Backing Vocals), make up the key elements of The Rob Byer Band. Rob and his band have shared the stage and events with country stars such as: Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Chris Cagle, Sugarland, Keith Anderson, Brian McComas, Charlie Daniels, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, and Pat Green. Playing a USO Show at Nissan Pavillion in Bristol, Virginia with Toby Keith was a highlight and a humbling experience for the band.

Byer credits growing up in the 80’s as the cornerstone to his musical influences, or at least what made him pick up the guitar for the first time. Images of arena concerts and droves of people cheering for their favorite band stayed with him through the years. “The live shows were so immense back then, that it made the music and performers much bigger,” Byer says. These days, he sites eclectic influences that range from great songwriters like the late Ray Charles or the pop of The Beatles to greats such as Phil Vassar, Brett James & Richard Marx. “All of these writers have an understanding of what a great song is,” Byer says. “When you can listen to a song for the first time and it gives you goose bumps…WOW! Not only is songwriting very important to Byer’s formula for success, but the live shows that he and his band create are unmatched.

While performing, Byer and his band display much energy, attitude, self-confidence and charisma. Whether playing for a crowded bar, headlining college events, opening for national country recording artists, or singing the National Anthem for 38,000 people at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards, a huge fan base follows – an army of loyal fans that help get the word out about appearances and events. They hang flyers, send e-mail and lend support to something they  believe in. And let’s not forget the heavy traffic on the band’s website: www.robbyer.com.

What people are saying...

I had heard of the Rob Byer Band, but had never seen them live until I saw them open for Brian McComas at The House of Rock. From the audience response it seemed they were all there to see Rob as well as the headliner. I was blown away at how great the whole band sounded and how Rob took command of that stage. They all blew the roof off the place!! What a great show, I walked away knowing how incredible local talent can be. You gotta see them!

After hearing the obvious strength of Rob Byer’s songwriting on his CD, I took a shot and offered him the opening slot for CMT favorite, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Bret Michaels of Poison. To say I was impressed by his live show is an understatement. Since then, he’s opened for diverse acts like The Charlie Daniels Band and Nils Lofgren at The Recher and I’ve watched every crowd fully embrace him and his music with overwhelming response. He’s a pro on every level and I will gladly support his every effort.

Your appearance here at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for Orioles Entertainment last Friday was indeed a home run. As Director of Concerts for the Orioles, I have made a commitment to our fans and to the City of Baltimore to bring the best talent possible to our concert stage at the Babe Ruth Memorial. You were fantastic! Great vocals, incredible stage presence, and a powerful performance, just the best of the whole concert season for us. Thanks again.
