Shelby Brown

Detroit music is listened to and celebrated around the city and around the world.  The quality of Detroit’s musicians and their sounds is second perhaps only to the diversity of their styles and genres.  This city produces its own brand of Smooth Jazz, a unique soul-infused blend of Jazz and R&B.

Born in Michigan, Saxophonist Shelby Brown grew up in Detroit where he began playing violin at nine years old. It wasn’t until the age of thirteen that the late soprano sax giant George Howard would influence Shelby and open his eyes to Jazz.

Shelby first hit the airwaves in 2003 with Miracle, since then Shelby has been polished and his new CD No Boundaries is definitely worthy of an audience.

In January of 2007, Shelby became the proud endorser of Dymusic USA & Wisemann Saxophones which he shares with Grammy Award winning sax-man Marion Meadows.  This new partnership has Shelby traveling from the United States to Beijing, Shanghai, the United Kingdom, and Italy.  All in the name of promoting himself & his new line of saxophones, the Shelby Brown signature series, compliments of Wisemann.

After performing on an International level, Shelby still finds the time to be the topic of discussion, appearing in several of the music industries top magazines, i.e. The Instrumentalist, The Urban Network Magazine, MMR, and an array of overseas publications as well as establishing himself as philanthropist by donating his time to teach adults, teens, and young children music, and by donating musical instruments to the community in addition to holding clinics & seminars that teach students how to be successful in the music biz.

Shelby’s signature model saxophone complements his newest collection of Smooth Jazz instrumentals and vocals.  No Boundaries, written by Shelby and Damon Warmack, covers the spectrum of contemporary Jazz.  Some stand out tracks are Kendhal which is completed with vocals by Chanda Long, a local recording Artist and Hey Slim a song written for Shelby’s late Grandmother, yet it contains the expressive, emotional, inspirational and self described “Spirit Lead Soul” that Shelby puts into each and every note, playing each song as if it was his last.

This “Sprit Lead Soul” comes naturally for Shelby whose roots run deep into Detroit’s religious community and musical heritage.  After sharing the stage with some of the best and most famous musicians of our time such as Marion Meadows, Tim Bowman, Pieces of a Dreams - Eddie Baccus Jr., Lin Rountree, Alex Bugnon, Bob Baldwin, Nick Colionne and many more.

Listen for the Smooth Jazz sounds of Shelby Brown and you will again be reminded of Detroit’s great musical legacy.  No Boundaries captures the rich tapestry of Motown’s music.
