Tribute to the Troops
Since 2003, WWE has worked with Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) to produce WWE’s Tribute to the Troops with WWE Superstars performing before troops in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) in December.
Our first two Tribute tours were in Iraq; the first in Baghdad (Camp Victory) in 2003 and the second in Tikrit (Camp Speicher) in 2004. Each tour was the basis for a special WWE SmackDown Holiday Tribute to the Troops television program on UPN.
In 2005, the Tribute to the Troops tour was in Afghanistan (Bagram Air Base), which resulted in a Monday Night RAW Holiday Tribute to the Troops television program on USA Network.
In 2006, our fourth Tribute to the Troops tour was in Iraq (Camp Victory), again resulting in a Monday Night RAW Holiday Tribute to the Troops television program on USA Network. As part of that effort, in coordination with America Supports You (ASY) and A Million Thanks, WWE delivered more than 18,000 letters of support to the troops as part of the celebration of the 2.6 millionth letter being sent to the troops by A Million Thanks. The 2.6 millionth letter was delivered during the tour.
WWE and AFE celebrated the fifth anniversary of Tribute to the Troops in 2007, touring 20 forward operating bases, culminating in a live performance at Camp Speicher near Tikrit that resulted in a Monday Night RAW Tribute to the Troops television program on the USA Network.
On all these tours, WWE works with Armed Forces Entertainment to maximize visits to the troops at various camps on the front lines. We visit upwards to 20 camps in two days, prior to holding the event on the third day, which is attended by thousands of troops. We are usually transported by helicopter from the main base location to visit these various camps. As part of past tours, we have delivered free Xbox Game Consoles, video games, Starbucks coffee, DVDs and t-shirts.
Military Support Overview
Over the past six years, we have visited more than 200 military installations, military hospitals, aircraft carriers, submarines, and the Pentagon. We have participated in military fundraisers to support the families of our military men and women killed in action. We have participated in military re-enlistments. We have donated millions of dollars in merchandise and t-shirts to our troops fighting in harms way.
WWE has a long history of support of American troops. Back in the Gulf War in the early 1990’s, WWE sent Superstars to visit with the troops.
WWE Superstars regularly visit military bases and hospitals, including Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital, to bolster the morale of our troops.
WWE offers all U.S. military personnel free tickets to its live events in the United States. Military personnel who show up the day of an event that is not sold out receive a free ticket.
WWE is a supporter of the National Guard’s ChalleNGe program, which assists underprivileged youth in obtaining their GED or experience in technical trades. We have sponsored the awards luncheon in Washington, D.C.
We continue a very personal communication with the troops through our WWE military website, troops.wwe.com.
WWE has been an active supporter of America Supports You, providing PSAs for the troops, and working to support ASY initiatives, such as delivering the 2.6th million letter from A Million Thanks, an ASY partner, to troops in Iraq.
